The Uneasy is a progressive/ alternative rock band from New Jersey assembled in the Fall of 2020. Because its birth took place during one of the most uncertain and unprecedented times in our lifetime, the progression of this group is just as unorthodox as the time of its creation. Manifested then generated by lead singer and songwriter Emily Jean, The Uneasy is more of a vessel for unbridled creative expression than just a band. Although there are only three official members, sultry yet powerful singer/songwriter/rhythm guitarist Emily Jean, transcendent and eccentric bassist Kevin Grewen. The Uneasy is still considered a revolving door for other talented musicians/artists to leave their mark and influence which contributes to their unique yet strangely familiar brand of new rock and roll. Musical influences include Queens of the Stoneage, Muse, Royal Blood and The Foo Fighters as well as more experimental acts such as Radiohead, Tom Waits, Fiona Apple and St. Vincent.
Singer/songwriter and guitarist Emily Jean started playing in her first band as a drummer at age 12 then started singing with reggae rock band McNasty at age 16. Emily has performed live on stage as well as in the studio for many years including opening at the Meadowlands for the Bamboozle festival headlined by Snoop Dogg, Paramore and Kings of Leon. She made her way to the screen and was featured in The Degrassi Remix music video for Nickelodeon with Gym Class Heroes and Travie McCoy. Emily was also featured in the MTV show “Made” when playing drums in her first band Strike4. Her love for literally all sub genres of rock shines through in her simplistic and familiar yet powerful songwriting.
Bassist Kevin Grewin started playing at age 10 being taught by his older brother. Coming from a particularly artistic family, Kevin was immersed in visual as well as auditory forms of art from a very young age and its shows. His natural gravitation towards improvisation is crucial to the overall sound of The Uneasy. Grewin offers glimpses of but not limited to jazz, classical and any other progressive genres. His idol being Jaco Pastorius is telling of his unwillingness to settle for mediocrity in his craft and is constantly pushing him to think outside of the box, creating other worldly basslines that transform the straight ahead rock riffs into something exceptionally different. Kevin has played with bands such as Steve Reilly and the Rain Band, The Shady Street Show band and has opened for many well established groups including Kool and the Gang.
In the span of less than a year the group has written two full length albums worth of material, demoed 11 tracks for their first full length album “Time to Kill” and are currently finalizing a three track self-titled E.P. “The Uneasy”. full-length album “Time to Kill” is set to be released 2023.
